Dismal Land – a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism.
Are you looking for an alternative to the sugar-coated tedium of the average family day out? Or just somewhere a lot cheaper?
Then this is the place for you. Bring the whole family to come and enjoy the latest addition to our chronic leisure surplus…
Open everyday from 22nd August – 27th September 2015.
11am – 11pm. Admission £3, free for the under 5’s.
Capacity is limited, visit the ticket page and book a time slot for guaranteed entry.
The on-line ticketing system will be open on Tuesday 25th August from 12 noon at www.dismaland.co.uk when you will be able to purchase tickets for that evening’s session (7-11pm) and the next 7 days. Thank you for your patience. Entry into the park on Monday is on a walk up basis and cash only.

The event has all the hallmark details of a traditional Banksy event from its initial shroud of secrecy to artistic themes of apocalypse, anti-consumerism, and pointed social critiques on celebrity culture, immigration, and law enforcement. Francesca Pilati vor dem Apokalyptischen Reiter des deutschen Malers Wolfgang Grasse. Als Herrin auf Schloss Riegersburg hat sie das barocke Anwesen als reizvolle Begegnungsstätte mit moderner Kunst aus Österreich und den Nachbarländern etabliert.

Auf den ersten Blick haben sie denkbar wenig gemein, die Werke der barocken Meister und die Jahrhunderte später entstandenen Arbeiten eines Rudolf Hausner, eines Ernst Fuchs oder eines Arik Brauer. Auf den zweiten Blick hingegen stellen die Üppigkeit von Phantasie und Formen und die geradezu traumhafte Verkettung von Objekten und Ereignissen durchaus verbindende Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen den zwei Kunstrichtungen aus zeitlich recht weit voneinander entfernten Epochen der europäischen Kulturgeschichte dar. Und so gehen auch die Werke phantastischer Kunst der vergangenen Jahrzehnte in ihren unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen mit dem barocken Umfeld von Schloss Riegersburg im Waldviertel eine reizvolle, spannende Symbiose ein.

Visionary Hall of Fame - New Website Design

The site for the Visionary Hall of Fame existed for some time already. Integrated with the Visionary Art Gallery where the majority of the pages are currently hosted, it became necessary to migrate those pages to this stand-alone site. At this time, we have tested a new and much more dynamic design. We are currently in progress of migrating more pages to the newly designed site. So far, the following Hall of Fame Artists had been moved :

Eventually, we will migrate all the Hall of Fame pages currently hosted on the VAG site. Also in the plans are to make pages for the current external links to artist sites, found under the Home page tab on the Hall of Fame Site.

This development was long overdue, considering that this here site, associated with the VAG, has grown exponentially also. Currently, there are over 500 artists represented on the VAG, and the best of their individual works are displayed here under Featured Artwork . Developing a separate site for the Hall of Fame was necessary.

The Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel

The recent exhibition Phantastische Venus in Viechtach made me think of this great romantic painting by Alexandre Cabanel, painted in 1863.

Fast forward to present day and behold the "Große Venusmaschine" by Reinhard Schmid - who is the curator for the aforementioned exhibition Phantastische Venus in Viechtach

When we think of The Birth of Venus, immediately the famous painting by Sandro Boticelli comes to mind, exclusive of any other. Painted in 1483-85, there are almost 400 years between these two.

Going further back, the Venus de' Medici from the 1st-century BC is considered the ultimate model of this allegorical figure.
