ARTISTS OF THE MONTH

The Visionary Art Network Artists of the Month, from when this feature was first introduced when the public website opened in August 2009 to presently December 2016.
The private network was started on the Ning platform in January 2009 by Otto Rapp with a handful of friends. As the network grew, we eventually mirrored the best content from our network in the public Visionary Art Gallery (VAG):
VISIONARY ART GALLERY
Represented are Surrealist, Visionary and Fantastic Realist artists from around the globe. Associated with the VAG is the spin-off Visionary Art Exhibition (VAE) site:
VISIONARY ART EXHIBITION - there you find guest blogs and special selections of artworks from our network. The section of Featured Artwork is regularly updated: FEATURED ARTWORK
Visit the VAG page for Artist of the Month ► Slide Show here:

Scroll (detail) by Bette Burgoyne
Immerse yourself into a fantastic work of art by Bette Burgoyne - what a great trip!
The drawing "Scroll", by artist Bette Burgoyne, was completed in early 2011 and displayed through April 2011 at Amo Art Gallery. "Scroll" is white pencil on black paper, measuring over 10 feet in length. Display requirements make viewing "Scroll" in person a rare experience. In order to share the drawing with everyone, this 5 minute video was created.

- Video editing by Jeff Cerar / 4th Wall Films.

- Music permission for Animal Collective's "Visiting Friends" specifically for "Scroll" granted by Animal Collective, Rough Trade Publishing, and Fat Cat Records.

- Image file of "Scroll" courtesy of Art & Soul Photo, Seattle, WA.

Scroll, a white pencil drawing on black paper measuring over 10 feet in length, debuted in April 2011 at Amo Art.

Ernst Fuchs Requiem at the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna
Ernst Fuchs Requiem at the St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna
Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, all the angels and saints, we beseech Thee, Heavenly Father, give our Ernst, who is now gone home, who has dedicated his life's work to you and your Son Jesus Christ, and whom we accompany now in our prayer and thoughts on his way, Your mercy, peace and salvation. The Sacred Heart of Jesus, from which so much grace flows, may be open to Ernst, that it may be his gate, through which the eternal contemplation of your glory is granted!

Robert Hughes - American Visions

Robert Hughes
American Visions
Embedded playlist from YouTube by SirMixItAllUp2 ▼
"American Visions," an eight-part series on American art written and narrated by Time magazine art critic Robert Hughes, is both an account of American life and a tribute to American art that will likely propel thousands of the not-yet-converted into museums and galleries, antiques shows and auction rooms to see (and inevitably shop) for themselves. Filmed in 100 locations around the country, covering everything from Quaker to Shaker, George Washington to Bierstadt, Remington to Warhol, and the skyscrapers of New York City, Hughes has applied his considerable wit and imagination to the problem of revealing how art records and preserves both points of view and ways of life. It is American history told through art, not merely a history of art. It offers a perspective that is refreshingly elevating and inclusive.

--- by William Hosley

from Amazon.com Review of the Book:

Australian-born art critic Robert Hughes, author of the highly acclaimed study of modern art, 'The Shock of the New' has made his home in the United States for the last 20 years. His latest undertaking, which he calls "a love letter to America," is his most massive: a 350-year history of art in America. Published in association with an eight-part PBS series of the same name, this is no scholarly text. With the same voracious wit and opinionated brilliance that have characterized his criticism for Time magazine, this tour-de-force spans three centuries of events, movements, and personalities that have shaped American society and its art.
